Women come in all shapes and sizes, and their reasons for weight gain are just as diverse. The top four reasons the Spa encounters for weight gain and/or retention among female clientele includes: lack of enzyme functionality in the body, inflammation, water retention and hormonal imbalance.
1. WORKING OUT ISN’T ENOUGH: ENZYMES ARE REQUIRED
Working out is just one piece of the wellness puzzle. Diet is a much larger puzzle piece. For those working out they are also likely on a high protein diet. As we age into our 40s, 50s and 60s, we lose half of our enzyme functionality to process proteins.
When proteins go undigested in the body, they can convert to a fat or sugar. The long and short of it is you need a good probiotic, digestive enzymes and a multi-vitamin daily along with a predominantly plant-based diet for weight loss to occur and to keep lbs. off.
2. RELIEVE INFLAMMATION, REDUCE WEIGHT GAIN
Another reason for weight retention is inflammation. The inflammatory response(inflammation) occurs when tissues are injured by bacteria, trauma, toxins, heat, or any other cause. The damaged cells release chemicals including histamine, bradykinin, and prostaglandins. These chemicals cause blood vessels to leak fluid into the tissues, causing swelling.
3. WATER RETENTION = WEIGHT RETENTION
Water retention can mean the difference between holding onto an extra 5-10 lbs. The prescribed drugs most frequently associated with this adverse effect are the dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers —nifedipine, felodipine, and amlodipine. Pioglitazone very commonly causes peripheral edema. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can also cause peripheral edema. Blood pressure medications, diuretic drugs and thyroid meds can also cause water retention.
Water retention can be a long and ongoing battle. The best methods for addressing are: infrared saunas, which activate a heavy secretion and deep penetrating sweat within the body; drinking less water (move to half your daily requirement); and adding pink Himalayan sea salt to your fruits, vegetables and hot lemon water in the AM to help with excess water absorption.
4. HORMONAL IMBALANCE CAN LOWER METABOLISM
The most common reason for low estrogen is menopause. This is when a woman’s reproductive hormones decline, and menstruation stops. Many women notice that they gain weight during this time in their life. One reason why people might gain weight around menopause is changing hormone levels. One form of estrogen called estradiol decreases at menopause. This hormone helps to regulate metabolism and body weight. Lower levels of estradiol may lead to weight gain. The key culprit of most hormonal issues is Candida Overgrowth.
Our 35-Day Detox Program addresses enzyme support, inflammation, water retention and hormonal issues to help clients achieve sustainable weight loss. Call (248) 791-3936 to schedule a cellular-level analysis/consultation, or complete the form below.
20+ LBS. OF WEIGHT LOSS & HOLDING!
Cheryl Gemmete Simmons came to the Spa as a last ditch effort to figure out what was going on with her body. She’s since lost 22.2 lbs. and is keeping it off. Her stomach was severely bloated, and she had infrequent bowel. “My daughters joked that I needed to be deflated,” she said. “People would ask me when I was due, and if I was pregnant.” On top of all of this, she had an immobile esophagus, so food would get lodged in her throat. She saw several medical specialists, and no one could help her. Cheryl completed two back-to-back programs with results she never expected. Her bloat is down significantly, her bowel is regular (she’s down five inches in her waist) and she can feel her esophagus contracting again with the help of a peppermint essential oil protocol.
