Whether you’re a woman or a man, you can probably admit that you are having or have had some level of stomach bloat (Men, that includes bad gas); sinus issues, including severe pressure headaches; vaginal yeast infections; dental issues, such as root canals; or fungal infections of the skin and nails.
Guess what the culprit is? Candida, or yeast overgrowth, is the primary cellular-level issue Spa clients present or after they’ve detox it’s the sole issue remaining. Candida is hard-to-kill, and has been linked to other, more serious health concerns like cancer.
Candida is naturally-occurring within the human body, and is kept in check by good bacteria within the gut. When the good bacteria is striped within the gut by processed food and herbicide coated fruits and vegetables containing dangerous, cancer-causing chemical called glyphosate. It is used to regulate plant growth and ripen fruit. Glyphosate was first registered for use in the U.S. in 1974.
Of course, bread, beer, high fructose corn syrup product and white starches, such as potatoes, are on the list of foods you want to avoid. Food categories also on the list you might not know about, include:
- High-sugar fruits: Bananas, dates, raisins, grapes and mango.
Grains that contain gluten: Wheat, rye, barley and spelt.
Certain meats: Deli meats and farm-raised fish. - Refined oils and fats: Canola oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil or margarine.
- Condiments: Ketchup, soy sauce, white vinegar, BBQ sauce, horseradish or mayonnaise.
- Certain dairy products: Cheese, milk and cream.
- Sugar and artificial sweeteners: Aspartame, agave, cane sugar, corn syrup, honey, maple syrup, molasses and table sugar.
- Nuts and seeds higher in mold: Peanuts, cashews, pecans and pistachios.
- Caffeine, alcohol and sugary beverages: Caffeinated teas, coffee, energy drinks, soda, fruit juice, beer, wine or spirits.
- Additives: Nitrates or sulfates.
UNDERLYING FACTORS LINKED TO CANDIDA INFECTION
Predisposing factors for candida infection include an impaired immune system and underlying disease states, drugs abuse and prolonged use of antibiotics, decreased digestive secretions, dietary factors, nutrient deficiency, impaired liver function, and altered bowel flora, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The most common types of infection, such as vaginal and skin infections, are localized and can be treated with antifungal drugs. But, some species of Candida are either naturally resistant or are becoming increasingly resistant to the first-line and second-line antifungal medications, namely, fluconazole and echinocandins, according to the CDC.
And, that’s not all. Fungal candida was found to be one of the possible causes of infertility by researchers from Serbia. The ability of fungal candida to affect other areas such as blood sugar, inflammation, and hormones increases the likelihood that in some way or another, it will play a role in infertility.
The CDC says women who are more likely to get vaginal candidiasis include those who:
- Are pregnant
- Use hormonal contraceptives (for example, birth control pills)
- Have diabetes
- Have a weakened immune system (for example, due to HIV infection or medicines that weaken the immune system, such as steroids and chemotherapy)
- Are taking or have recently taken antibiotics
CANDIDA CAN BE SPREAD SEXUALLY, CAUSE CANCER & THYROID ISSUES
Yeast infections (candida) in men are common because the fungus that causes yeast infections is normally present on skin, especially moist skin. When some contributing factor — such as having sex with a female partner who has a vaginal yeast infection — causes an overgrowth of candida, infection can result, reports the Mayo Clinic.
Invasive candidiasis is a common healthcare-associated infection: it’s estimated that approximately 46,000 cases of healthcare-associated invasive candidiasis occur each year in the U.S., according to the CDC. Candidemia, the most common form of invasive candidiasis, is one of the most common bloodstream infections.
The most recent findings demonstrate that candida can promote cancer through several plausible mechanisms, according to one NIH-published study. “Microbial infection and cancer risk have been investigated for decades, and some types of virus and bacteria are well-known carcinogens,” reads the study.
Candida can also impact thyroid function as it feeds not only sugar but also B12 and folate. Vitamin B12 deficiency common in primary hypothyroidism, according to another NIH-published study. Hypothyroidism is an underactive thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism means that the thyroid gland can’t make enough thyroid hormone to keep the body running normally. People are hypothyroid if they have too little thyroid hormone in the blood.
